"turns on my groove-maker" - Elliott Fikes

Elliott Fikes is a multi-talented saxophonist who plays tenor, alto and soprano saxophones. He began playing saxophone at the age of nine in a small Kentucky mining town.  His love for the horn and his God given talent gave him the means to begin a professional career while still in high school.  He worked his way through school playing in local bands in Pittsburgh.  His senior year, he was discovered by a popular local recording group, Sonny and the Premieres.  After graduation, he was recruited by Little Anthony and the Imperials, a recording and touring group out of New York.

From that beginning, Elliott has performed with Joey Dee and the Starlighters, The Shirelles, The Coasters, Big Joe Turner and many others.  He shared the stage with Janis Joplin…and has performed across the country from New York to Las Vegas to California and points between.  He recorded in the 1970s on Capitol Records, and formed his own local bands performing all across the state of California. He moved to Colorado in the early 1980s, met his wife, Sherry, in Estes Park, Colorado, and moved to Austin, Texas in 1990.  Sherry encouraged him to start singing and his soulful vocals have become as popular as his sax instrumentals.

Elliott now calls the Texas Hill Country home and prefers the local audiences to anywhere he’s ever performed.  He has played every genre of music…and says that “music is the International Language.” He enjoys performing in all types of venues.
His performances are energetic, gutsy and unpretentious with emphasis on a great time for his audience.

His love for the Lord and desire to Glorify Him in all that he does, lead him to record his latest CD, There’s A Train Coming.

A Message from Elliott:

I give Jesus Christ all the Glory, Praise and Thanks for the gift of my talent, the blessings of friendships, and the love of a wonderful wife and family. I would like to thank all you good folks that have followed my music through the years. The wonder of the web has made it possible for many of you, not only here in Texas, but in Colorado, California, and all points between to keep up with me. Your support and interest in my music has meant more to me than you know. It is wonderful to be appreciated for doing what you love to do. I have been fortunate to share the stage with some great local talents and I’ve learned from each and every one. I thank all the players that have supported and continue to support me. I enjoy hearing from all of you, and Sherry and I make sure to answer all our emails, so keep ‘em coming.   For anyone feeling lost and alone, I encourage you to turn to Jesus…He gives me all my strength, my everything – I am nothing without Him. He is a great, powerful, loving God that loves you – just as you are – right where you are. He has done all the work – He endured the pain of the cross so that you could know the joy of an eternity with Him…and all you have to do is ASK.   God IS GOOD!   In His love, Elliott
